A marquise is the most efficient shape in the world for looking large. Long, narrow and pointed at both ends, it has the greatest face-up surface area per carat of any cut we make — a 1ct marquise can present close to the footprint of a 1.5ct round. If maximum visual size for the budget is the priority, this is the shape.

It is also the most demanding to cut well. Both points must align on a single axis, the two halves must mirror precisely, and the bow-tie across the centre must be controlled. A poorly proportioned marquise looks lopsided from the moment you put it on, which is why we cut to tighter symmetry tolerances on this shape than any other.

Both points need protection, so V-prongs are standard on every marquise we set. Worn lengthways along the finger it creates the most elongating line of any cut. Handcrafted in 10k, 14k and 18k gold and platinum with IGI-certified lab grown diamonds or moissanite.
