Oval Engagement Rings

An oval reads larger than a round diamond of the same carat weight. That is not marketing — it is geometry. The elongated shape presents more surface area face-up, so an oval of a given weight typically looks noticeably bigger on the hand than a round of identical weight, at a lower price per carat.

The number to watch when choosing an oval is the length-to-width ratio. Around 1.35 to 1.45 is the classic proportion most people find balanced. Below that an oval starts to look rounded; above 1.50 it becomes distinctly elongated, which flatters longer fingers and suits anyone wanting a more modern line.
